“I am always thrilled to see which projects win awards. The winning projects – and the teams that create them – demonstrate that the Nashville development community is a national market leader an excellence innovator. ULI’s mission priorities include achieving decarbonization and reaching net zero, accelerating the development of attainable housing, and educating the next generation of diverse leaders. Among this year’s nominees, I see innovation and leadership in each of these critical areas. These projects reflect the Nashville development community’s commitment to our mission of transforming the built environment.” Edward Henley, Pillars Development and Chair of ULI Nashville.

““The Excellence in Development Awards showcase exceptional development in Nashville and Middle Tennessee. As you can imagine, at this moment, that’s a competitive field. To win a ULI Award, the project must be a design and financial success, but it must also demonstrate a positive impact on the community and innovation within its asset class. It is a project to emulate.” Sheila Dial-Barton, EOA Architects, and Chair of Mission Advancement at ULI Nashville.

The Urban Land Institute (ULI) was founded in 1936 and has nearly 50,000 members globally. ULI’s mission is to shape the future of the built environment for transformative impact in communities worldwide. ULI Nashville was founded in 2008 with the purpose to serve as a trusted convenor, collaborator, and educator of best practices on all aspects of city building. ULI Nashville has nearly 900 members representing all the fields in real estate and land use. Throughout the year, ULI Nashville members gather at over 70 events to network, share ideas and best practices, and learn from one another and guests.
In 2023, ULI Nashville will award the first Rose Faeges-Easton Community Impact Award, named for founding Executive Director of ULI Nashville, Rose Faeges-Easton. This Award will be bestowed on a project that shows a singular ability to link development and design to community need and community impact.

Eighteen projects have been nominated for awards in 2023, representing large and small projects from the private, public and non-profit sectors. Each nominee was judged on criteria that support ULI’s mission, “Shape the future of the built environment for transformative impact in communities worldwide.” The event is sponsored by Holland & Knight (formerly Waller), The Tennessee Titans Community Foundation, Al. Neyer, and Brasfield & Gorrie. The judges deliberated the merits of each project per the Awards evaluation criteria shown in the drop down menu below:
Market acceptance, financial viability, and operational stability.
Excellence and innovation in several, related areas including land use, design, construction, economics, sustainability / environmental sensitivity, and equity.
Noteworthy use of value-added elements such as: public/private/non-profit partnerships, consideration of affordability, promotion of healthy lifestyles, response to a demonstrated community need, reflection of the character of the community, or a catalytic impact on other development or a community.
Worthy of Emulation – creates a high standard of industry excellence, sets a new bar, stands out among others.”
