Event moderators Chris Smith and Jeanne Harrison, founders of Nashville Market Makers, were joined by a panel of leaders in the fields of design, construction, and manufacturing. The panelists have experience in healthcare facilities across the country and discussed innovative tools to drive success in the industry.

The panel discussion revolved around the value of early team integration in the design and development of healthcare facilities. The project went through 3 case studies of hospitals with different sets of challenges and the discussion around how integration contributed to its success. The program kicked-off with a short presentation regarding the integration process. The panelist then discussed best practices for deploying the process which was then followed by a round of questions from the moderators and audience Q&A.

Larry Arndt and Hank Adams led the discussion on the use of a holistic integrated approach. Talking points included getting buy-in early and establishing the team vision, understanding where the challenges will happen, and assessing which tools can help either reduce or eliminate the risk.
Early buy-in and establishing the vision is critical in the success of the program. The panelist expressed the importance of collaboration from your major trades and incentives for not only participation but maximizing their subject matter expertise during the design process. It was also noted that design-build delivery methods provide the greatest chance of success when using the integrated approach.
Healthcare construction is a highly sensitive vertical market. It relies heavily on relevant experience and an understanding of the complexities of medical facility design & regulations to identify potential challenges on a project. There are also unforeseen labor, market, and supply chain conditions, that need to be overcome. Ricardo Rodriguez discussed the importance of prefabrication and use of data driven software as tools to overcome those hurdles. The event was followed by a small reception which continued the conversation around defining innovation and optimization.
