Regional construction company, Reeves Young hosted a Second Avenue North Block Party with the support of Second Avenue business sponsors. This 3-block segment of 2nd Avenue is undergoing infrastructure redevelopment following the 2020 Christmas Day blast. The reopened North Block has a renewed emphasis on the pedestrian experience. It includes features such as wider sidewalks with new brick pavers, new streetlights, a prominent mid-block pedestrian crossing, and additional landscaping with new planters. The block party commemorated the completion of the North Block between Church & Union Streets.
Invited guests, including all stakeholders involved with the Second Avenue Rebuild, local government officials and sponsors, joined together on the newly renovated block, spanning from Church Street to Union Street, and celebrated with light refreshments and live music amidst a joyous atmosphere.
The evening included a brief program during which Mayor Freddie O’Connell and District 19 Councilman Jacob Kupin reflected on the revitalization of Second Avenue and highlighted its profound significance in Nashville’s history. Reeves Young Project Executive Mariano Luja, Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency Urban Development Senior Project Manager Michelle Scopel, and the Bankers Alley Hotel Nashville, Tapestry Collection by Hilton’s General Manager Danielle Boyles also addressed the gathering, offering their perspectives as key leaders of the Second Avenue Rebuild initiative.
Construction Progress
Construction continues on the middle and South blocks of Second Avenue towards the intersection of 2nd Avenue and Broadway extending the improvements from the North Block. In addition to the hardscapes, MDHA recently highlighted other sustainable elements of the project, some of which include green carbon-capturing concrete, solar-powered waste management, a wider variety of larger trees, stormwater separation and Dark Sky-approved streetlights.
