Metro Parks have submitted plans for a new park site located along a stretch of Gay Street and 1st Avenue North in Germantown. The site is currently divided into 3 main uses which include parking lots to the North and South, a green space in the center, and a segment of Greenways Trail. The site is situated between the new NES substation which is under construction and the freight bridge at 428 and 510 1st Ave N.

The plans include the demolition of the parking lots and existing segment of the Cumberland River Greenway. Many of the existing trees are preserved as the new site includes multiple playing courts, outdoor fitness, a wider Greenway, playground, pavilion, and sidewalk improvements along 1st Avenue North.
A request has been submitted for concept plan approval to permit the park on the properties which are zoned DTC. Once approved, the request will advance the park on the 2.07 acres site. The request was made by Nashville Metro Parks, the applicant and owner. Here’s the quick rundown:

The new park is essentially divided into 4 sections. The Northernmost section, near the rail bridge, proposes two pickleball courts and a full basketball court. Each court is separated with a 4-feet fence; there is a 10-feet fence facing the river. There is also a sports & court wall located near the rail bridge.
Additionally, there is an outdoor fitness zone with multi-person and individual equipment such as 2-person lat pulldowns, rowing machines, and 4-person pendulum, abs, & dip station.

Moving south along 1st Avenue, the next 2 sections include a new greenway trail segment and open green space with swinging benches. Continuing South, there is a large partially covered picnic pavilion which has a large playground next to it.

The final area is near the corner of Gay Street and 1st Avenue. This section features the trail head for the segment of greenway, has new sidewalk improvements, and features a sand volleyball court. The monument signage for the park is also located in this quadrant.
The plan is scheduled for the 10/24/2024 Metro Planning Commission Agenda.
