Alabama A&M University (AAMU) continues progress of its upcoming $58 Million Student Amenities Center and $82 Million Science Building; the University announced that they are actively engaging students in the development of finalized offerings and amenities. University President, Daniel Wims believes these projects will transform the campus and also serve the economic vitality of the North Huntsville community. Alabama A&M University is located at 4900 Meridian Street North in Huntsville.

Student Amenities Center

AAMU believes the new facility will reshape the student experience with state-of-the-art gathering spaces, centralized campus services, dining options, and student support offices. The strategic vision for the building allows a transformative connection of East and West campus, creating a transformative AAMU campus and establishing a new hub for activity. The modern building is expected to include a food court, flexible theater space, student services offices, the campus bookstore and merchandise shop, conference spaces, a game room, student governance offices, outdoor pavilions, and more.
“This facility takes our student services to the next level and greatly improves our ability to attract and engage students,” says Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Braque Talley. “Students expect quality amenities and comfortable spaces to gather, study, and build community. The student amenities building addresses those needs while also centralizing many of the support and auxiliary services for students.”
New Science Building

The $82 million state-of-the-art facility science building will nearly triple the university’s instructional classroom and laboratory STEM capacity in the areas of biology, chemistry and physics. According to the plans, the new building will be situated near the corner of Chase Road and Meridian Street. AAMU leads the state in producing minority STEM graduates, making this expansion exceptionally impactful.The modernized Science Building is expected to include advanced laboratories, collaborative research spaces and state-of-the-art classrooms, providing a world-class environment for both teaching and research.
“This new facility will significantly enhance our capacity to provide top-tier STEM education to our students,” said Dean of the College of Engineering, Technology, and Physical Sciences, Dr. Zhengtao Deng.

Founded in 1875 by former slave, Dr. William Hooper Councill, Alabama A&M University (AAMU) is the largest Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Alabama. As a traditional 1890 land-grant institution, “The Hill” is a dynamic and progressive institution with a strong commitment to academic excellence and is the state’s largest producer of minority STEM graduates.
According to the release, the construction of both the new Student Amenities Center and Science Building is slated to begin later this year.
