Metro Nashville has submitted plans for a new Nashville Metro Fire Department Headquarters and Fire Station 2. The previous Fire Station 2 was demolished back in 2021 to make way for a new facility. Designed by Hastings, the new 8-story 207,000 sf foot building will also serve as an Expansion Office for Metro. Additionally, plans include a future phase which proposes a residential mixed-use development. The building sits on Metro-owned land Downtown along the Cumberland River. The site is located across from Strobel House at 500 2nd Avenue N.

There are two lobbies with entrances along 1st & 2nd avenues, which is likely a strategic decision that gives residents of Strobel House some level of privacy. The entrance into the underground parking deck is located across from Strobel House on Jo Johnson Avenue.

The fire station will feature six apparatus bays, each 18 feet wide with a 14-foot clear height and a 75-foot apron setback from the curb for safe firetruck deployment. Fir trucks will enter on 1st Avenue and exit from 2nd Avenue. The site will also include vertical clearance for testing 90-foot tall ladders and essential facilities such as backup power, water systems, generators, and emergency electricity rooms, designed to meet Risk Category 4 standards for seismic and wind resistance.
The project is slated for the 2/26/2026 Metro Planning Agenda.
