Local Nashville design firm MZA along with its design partner EOA recently completed a new mixed-use development in Wedgewood Houston. Located just 1.5 miles south of Downtown Nashville, Emblem Park is the redevelopment of a 5-acre site that previously housed commercial and warehouse buildings. Nestled within an Opportunity Zone, this new development is a mixed-use residential community, featuring 346 apartments over 20,000 SF of retail space and with many tenant amenities within the 5-story residential building, such as a fitness area, clubhouse, co-working, pet spa and bike storage.

The fabric of the existing warehouse informed the design features and elements throughout including a corrugated metal skin system on a majority of the facades and portions of the roof. The pitched and undulating roof pattern plays off the retail framework and enlivens the public facades. The monochromatic color palette is highlighted with pops of teal accents. Generous glazing along street frontages and amenity spaces blur the delineation of indoor and outdoor spaces, as well as highlight ground floor live-work spaces.

The strong formal and material language of the architecture was carried through to the design of the project interiors, where bold color-blocking and strong geometric forms mix with textures and patterns reminiscent of the industrial warehouse buildings that once occupied the site.
