Tennessee’s second Caption by Hyatt (Caption) is swiftly rising in the Nashville Gulch. Developed by joint-venture partners CB Ragland, HRI Hospitality, and Peachtree Hotel Group, the hotel includes 210 guest rooms and a 150-car underground parking structure. The project is situated between Broadway and Demonbreun Street at the former site of Whisky Kitchen. The property address is 118 12th Avenue South.
The Caption brand combines the “efficiency and flexibility” of a select-service hotel while also creating a lifestyle experience by taking in the vibe and culture of its surroundings. According to development documents, Caption is purpose-built to thrive in areas with high foot-traffic such as urban and downtown cores, dense suburban markets, lifestyle mixed-use developments, and emerging urban neighborhoods. The central amenity of the Caption brand is The Talk Shop food & beverage (F&B) concept, which is an all-day hangout and coffee shop.
This quadrant of the Gulch has seen numerous proposals over the past few years. Recent development activity includes the recent Trophy Class Office tower One22One, the construction of two new multifamily towers, a proposed CitizenM hotel by the same developer, and the recent sale of the 7-11 Gas Station on Broadway. The hotel consists of 3 levels of underground parking which has access from McGavock Street. The hotel lobby/lounge is located along 12th Ave S and features The Talk Spot and a separate restaurant space with an outdoor terrace. Other amenities include meeting rooms with an outdoor terrace facing 12th Ave S and fitness center on level 2. The guest room tower primarily consists of King and Full Double rooms.
Construction Update
The contractor broke ground in the summer of 2023. Since then, the construction of the guest room tower has reached the 11th floor. Exterior activities such as window glazing and the building skin of the tower have also begun. The images below provide recent progress as of January 2024.
Hyatt launched the Caption brand in Memphis with a 136 key hotel at 245 S. Front Street in 2022. Nashville will become the second US location and is anticipated to open late 2024, there are also plans for a Caption in Sydney Australia in 2025.
