Samaritan Recovery Community hosted a grand opening event today to celebrate the completion of its new facility and its 60th anniversary. The community-based, non-profit agency provides treatment for addiction and co-occurring disorders in Nashville and the Middle Tennessee area since 1964, The new building features a 130-bed treatment center for Samaritan Recovery Community and the addition of 195 affordable housing units through Shelby House Apartments, poised to assimilate individuals transitioning from rehabilitation back into society. Samaritan Recovery Community partnered with Holladay Ventures and Evergreen Real Estate to create this new development located at the corner of 5th And Shelby.

“Thrilled is not a strong enough word to express the excitement and hope that this new facility has brought everyone at Samaritan, our staff, stakeholders and patients included,” said Dr. Mark Lasko, CEO and executive director at Samaritan. “It truly feels like, after serving people for over 60 years, we are ushering in a new era of Samaritan. One with more robust offerings, more beautifully healing spaces and more opportunity to give our patients the next step to a better life. After all, Samaritan has always been about aiding the underserved.”
One of the first facilities of its kind, the non-profit will now be able to offer more patients co-occurring, transitional living, continuing care, intensive outpatient family, and intensive residential programs in addition to long-term affordable housing options.
After completing the rehabilitation programs, Samaritan patients will be able to transition into quad living quarters, apartment-style housing with four furnished bedrooms, and independent apartments. In addition to expanding patient care beds from 16 to 42 beds, Samaritan will give patients the opportunity to stay in transitional living for up to one year rather than the current 90-day program.

“As a board member and an advocate for affordable housing, I was excited and proud to help bring this multi-use building to the land that Samaritan owns in East Nashville,” said Evan Holladay, Samaritan board member and CEO and president of Holladay Ventures. “As the city continues to grow, it’s imperative that we provide Nashville an adequate amount of resources, whether in the form of food, housing, career services, wellness treatments or otherwise. All of this is possible thanks to Samaritan’s crucial, community-altering project.”
While the expansion means extended service offerings for the community, it also means physical expansions. This facility’s added space will take Samaritan from 56 to 130 in-patient beds, expand social detox beyond 10 beds, increase rehab beds from 36 to 58 and grow transitional living from 16 to 42 beds while extending the length of the program from 90 days to a full year.

Evan continued, “Our (Evergreen Real Estate and Holladay Ventures) partnership with Samaritan Recovery Community (SRC) aims to realize their vision of an expanded campus, providing increased support for individuals in recovery while addressing the need for affordable housing, and providing a bridge for their graduates to housing. SRC will incur no debt on their new facility and stands to gain new revenue through affordable housing, bolstering their financial sustainability.”
Focusing on both an improvement in services and space, Samaritan’s new facilities will help strengthen and serve vulnerable populations as they work to find paths to a sustainable life and maintain sobriety for many years to come.
